About Me

My photo
I’m a stay at home mother of two beautiful children, Zoey and Zane. I spend most of my days wiping butts and cleaning up…but what can I say I love every minute of it. I love the time I get to spend each day with my children thanks to God and my wonderful husband. This blog is about our daily happenings at the Blakley Ranch. Hope you enjoy!

The End of Week One...

It’s official, Zoey has completed her first week of preschool. I’m so proud of her for adjusting to her new routine so smoothly. She only had one glitch that occurred on the second day of school…she had to sit in time out for not sharing. However, after a good talk from Mom and Dad (via phone) the rest of the week went very well. She rushed to the door of the school house each morning. She didn't even glance back as she went to sit in her seat. I was barley able to get a goodbye out of her as she became engrossed in whatever activity Mrs. Connie had awaiting them. Zoey was very busy this week and made several great art projects including this school bus.

She also practiced spelling and writing her first and last name.

Of coarse, you can’t complete the first week of school without learning the letter "A".

Zoey did several crafts that started with the letter "A"...she painted this alligator her favorite color

...she made this apple wheel…and an alligator puppet, which she reported was her favorite project this week.

Last but not least, Zoey was able to pick a toy out of the treasure chest today. I was not surprised one bit when Zoey excitedly showed me her treasure box pick…a pack of plastic dinosaurs. I love that about her!

First Day of Preschool...

Well, the day has come…Zoey woke up so excited this morning to start her first day of preschool at Mrs. Connie’s. She got up with little fuss, which is an accomplishment for Precious as she is not a morning person. Zoey wanted to wear a dress for the first day of school and picked this purple one out herself.

She strapped on her new backpack and we headed out the door.

Mrs. Connie greeted Zoey with a hug and directed Zoey to her table. They started class with playdough. This required some serious concentration on Zoey’s part, but she reported later that this was her favorite part of the day.

Mrs. Connie read several books about starting school, and Zoey learned how to spell “R-E-D” with the help of a catchy song she has been singing all day.

Zoey caught up with some of her old friends and met a few new ones. I think she had a great day and we both made it through with no tears!!!

Q&A...

Name: Zoey Blakley
Age: 3
Height: 41 inches
Weight: 43 pounds

It’s the night before Zoey starts preschool and I thought it would be fun to have a short question and answer session with her. I thought this would be a great way to document some of her favorite things at the age of three. I will definitely make this a tradition at the start of each school year. It will be something fun to look back on as she grows and matures each year. However, this year my baby girl’s answers were short and sweet and too cute not to blog.

Mom: “What’s your favorite color?”
Zoey: “Pink”

Mom: “What’s your favorite book?”
Zoey: “Someday” (by Alison Meghee and Peter Reynolds)

Mom: “What’s your favorite food?
Zoey: “ Steak and Potatoes”

Mom: “What do you like to do?”
Zoey: “Ride buttermilk and color”

Mom: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Zoey: “A pet doctor”

Mom: “Who are some of your friends?”
Zoey: “Katelyn Connor, Kate Hagaman, and Mama” (she leans into me and gives me a hug)

Mom: “Where are you going tomorrow?”
Zoey: “To school at Mrs. Connie’s…I‘m so excited! Are you going to come right back and pick me up?”

Mom: “Yes, after you get finished learning for the day.”
Zoey: “Ok, I’m so excited!”

Mom: “I know you are…your going to have a great time. Remember to use good manners, to share, and to mind Mrs. Connie.”
Zoey: “If someone does not mind me and share I’ll tell Mrs. Connie.”

Mom: “Well, you let Mrs. Connie handle the other children…they don’t have to mind you. Mrs. Connie is the teacher and they will mind her.”
Zoey: “Did you know my Boomaw’s a teacher?” (Boomaw is what Zoey calls her grandmother)

Mom: “Yes.”
Zoey: “Well, if those kids don’t mind me Boomaw will take care of them for Mrs. Connie.”

Mom: “Ok, Zoey just remember your not the boss and you have to have good manners and play well with the kids.”
Zoey: “I know Mama…you don‘t always have to tell me that!”

Mom: “I just wanted to remind you.”
Zoey: “I love you mom and I’m going to have fun at school…and mind Mrs. Connie. Maybe Mrs. Connie can make brother mind.

Mom: “Yea, sometimes brother doesn't mind.”
Zoey: “No, but we sure do love that brother…don‘t we?”

Mom: “Yes, Precious…and I sure do love that sister too!”

Growing Up...

I noticed the other day that I have not taken any pictures of Zoey since February...where has the time gone! I take pictures because I want my kids to be able to look at them one day and all the good memories of childhood to come rushing back. Well, my baby girl is now three and will be starting preschool on Monday. She is so excited, and in honor of her first school year I decided to start a tradition. I’m going to take pictures of the kids the week before school starts and the week after school lets out to document the physical changes in their appearance...and to justify my expensive hobby to my hubby. So, I decided that Zoey and I would go out by ourselves and have a pre-preschool “photo shoot”.

We had a great time and I loved having a little one-on-one time with her! When I downloaded the pictures onto my computer I realized how much my little girl has changed since February.

She is growing up…her bright blonde hair is a shade darker, her round face has narrowed, and she has a few more freckles.

However, Zoey still has that sparkle in her eye, that unruly curl to her hair, and that beautiful smile on her face…I hope some things never change.

I love you “Precious” and I hope you have a great school year!
