About Me

My photo
I’m a stay at home mother of two beautiful children, Zoey and Zane. I spend most of my days wiping butts and cleaning up…but what can I say I love every minute of it. I love the time I get to spend each day with my children thanks to God and my wonderful husband. This blog is about our daily happenings at the Blakley Ranch. Hope you enjoy!

Memories...

I have always had an appreciation for spring in Texas… I love the bluebonnets. The bluebonnets remind me of being a child and bring back fond memories of my brother, Spencer, and I spending most of our days outside playing. My mother-in-law has the cutest picture of my husband and his older sister, Tammy, in the bluebonnets as children. My husband has adorable little suspenders on...if I had a scanner you would definitely be seeing that picture. Anyway, I wanted to carry on the tradition by catching a few memories of my own...

Zoey could not resist picking a handful of bluebonnets to bring home. My little rebel!

Too Fast...

On March 16, 2009, my daughter, Zoey, turned three years old. The time has gone by so quickly…I can’t help but reminisce about the past three years. It feels like she was born only yesterday.

On her first birthday, she was still unsteady on her feet with just a few curls around her ears.

On her second birthday, she was running around so fast I could barley stop her long enough to blow out the candles on her cake.

Now, at three she’s no longer my “little” girl. She’s my “big” girl…which she often likes to remind me of. Her little head of blond hair has turned into waist length curls. These days my “Precious” has a lot more spunk and a little bit of sass in her voice...but I love every minute I have spent with her over the past three years. Happy Birthday Precious...your growing up too fast for Mom!

Houston Nights...

Last Wednesday we headed to Houston with a couple of our friends for some fun at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Our first stop was Joe’s Crab Shack where we grabbed a bite to eat. Next, we headed to the carnival for some fun and games.

John and I rode a ride that I can only describe as a human sling shot.

We played a few games and one lucky man won a prize for his lovely wife.

Then we made our way to the rodeo to cheer on a local Madisonville roper, Colby Lovell.

Last but not least, we enjoyed the music of country singer, Reba McEntire.

After the show, we had a few drinks and laughs. We had a great time...this will be one Houston night to remember.

Jace Austin...

My nephew, Jace, stopped by for a visit today and I had to snap a few shots of this handsome boy. My sister, Shae, had Jace ten weeks early. He weighed only three pounds and nine ounces at birth. Jace spent the first few months of his life in the Neonatal Unit at College Station Medical Center and is just starting to venture away from home. We have been giving him time to adjust to his new surroundings; therefore, we were so excited when he and his Mama stopped by.

He has flourished in the past few weeks and his features have changed so much…that is except for those piggy toes…they look just like his mom’s.

While taking pictures this little boy decided he wanted his head in only one direction and refused to have it turned any other way…he’s already showing his strong willed nature. During the last few shots he told me what he thought about the whole situation by sticking out his tongue.

What a little ham...we had so much fun with this little boy today and are so grateful he's here!

A Day at the Place…

This past weekend Joey, Zoey, Zane, and I visited “the place”… 500 acres my husband has leased for his cattle and horses. With a location this size my husband spends a lot of time mending fence and checking cattle. On this occasion the kids and I got to go along for the ride…it turned out to be a little cold but we had a lot of fun.

We came across several new arrivals...

We found a few spots on the fence that needed mending...Zoey was quick to lend a helping hand.

We encountered a few dangers along the way…

Each time we cross this bridge I hold my breath. If you could see this thing up close you would see the large holes among the rotten planks. I made Joey let the kids and I off as he crossed on the mule…I was afraid my extra weight would cause the mule to reach its maximum capacity causing our decline into the water below. Ok…I’m a little dramatic... but again you have to see this thing in person…the picture does not do it justice.

After making it safely over the bridge we came across the mud…

and the thorns...

When these babies are flying by your head at 30 mph they are without a doubt included on the danger list. I have never seen thorns this big in my life.

Despite all the hazards we had a great time helping out at the place…thanks Dad for letting us tag along!
